Boot Camp



Please follow the safety requirements below before trying any of the challenges:
  1. Parent or guardian supervision is required
  2. Only complete challenges that you are comfortable with.
  3. Make sure you have a safe, open space around you so you don’t trip over anything
  4. Make sure you use the equipment outlined in each challenge safely and check that the equipment works properly before you use it
  5. Only use equipment that you are comfortable with.
  6. Remember, there are equipment modifications for each challenge!
  7. Follow the instructions in each video to ensure you are safely completing the challenges before attempting them on your own
  8. Ensure you are wearing proper footwear, stay hydrated, and most importantly have fun!

What Are We Doing? Do 10 each of all five exercises in a row, as fast as you can!

Where Should We Do It? Open space, inside or outside

What Do We Need? Stopwatch or a timer app on your phone

How Should We Set Up? Clear the space around you of all tripping or slipping hazards.

 

How Do We Do It?

1) Start your timer

2) Do each of these exercises ten times, one after the other, in this order:

  •     Rocketships- from a crouch touching the ground, jump up in the air with         your hands clasped, arms against your ears)
  •     Push-ups (full or on your knees)
  •     Sit-ups
  •     Squats
  •     Lunges

3) Stop your timer and record the time

Scoring: Let us know how long it took you to complete the boot camp!


Swimmer Half Plank

What Are We Doing? In one minute, do as many strokes as you can!

Where Should We Do It? Open space indoors or outside

What Do We Need? Stopwatch or timer app on your phone

How Should We Set Up? Clear the space around you of any tripping or slipping hazards

How Do We Do It?

1) Prepare yourself into the plank position, on your elbows and either on your toes or your knees

2) Start your timer for one minute

3) Raise your left hand, place it along your leg, and bring it over and forward in a front crawl motion, following your hand with your eyes and head. Do this three times, switch to the right side. 

4) Count how many strokes you complete in a minute

Scoring: Add up how many strokes you were able to complete in the 60 seconds and submit your total


Flutter Kicks



Please follow the safety requirements below before trying any of the challenges:
  1. Parent or guardian supervision is required
  2. Only complete challenges that you are comfortable with.

  4. Make sure you use the equipment outlined in each challenge safely and check that the equipment works properly before you use it

What Are We Doing? In one minute do as many flutter kicks as you can!

Where Should We Do It? A flat area either on carpet or grass, or with a towel or yoga mat

What Do We Need? Stopwatch or timing app on your phone

How Should We Set Up? Make sure you space is free of tripping or slipping hazards

How Do We Do It?

1) Lay down on your back and place your hands under you bum on each side. palms down

2) Start your timer for one minute

3) Lift your legs off of the ground together, raise one leg at a time, one after the other

4) Ensure that your legs are separating by a foot width

5) Count how many kicks you can do in one minute, counting each time a leg is raised as one kick. Take a break if you need to. 

Scoring: Total the number of times you preformed a flutter kick and submit your number. 


Healthy Athletes Swimming Challenge

Special Olympics Ontario is building a network of healthcare providers (dentists, optometrists, physiotherapists and others) across Ontario who are open to seeing people with intellectual disabilities.
