Special Olympics Memory:
Attending the 50th Anniversary Special Olympics Ontario Invitational Youth Games in Toronto May 2019. It was Kyri’s first opportunity to travel to a tournament with his team (apart from us parents), stay in his own room in a dorm setting for several days, be independent and learn to take direction from his coaches. He was thrilled to play with the Western University Unified Basketball Team and to win a bronze medal! It was an incredible experience for him.
Swimming, playing with his two dogs, snowboarding with his sister, reading, watching movies, playing video games, spending time with his two grandmothers and his cousins.
Kyri and his family would love to thank everyone involved in Special Olympics. Until we were made aware of the tremendous opportunity for fun, personal growth and team activities provided by SOO, Kyri spent many weekends watching his sister Zoë play competitive sports including track, soccer, basketball and volleyball. This was his chance to be an athlete like his big sister, something he had always wanted but was unable to fully participate in. Kyri absolutely loves all his sports. He has become stronger and more physically fit, has been able to learn new skills and how to follow coaches instructions, interact with team mates and make new friends. He has experienced the fun of winning medals. He has come alive with the joy of competition in a place that embraces his skills and celebrates his individuality. It has been our greatest joy to watch our son play sports with a constant smile on his face!
